Twestival Local: Raising Money for Local Charities and Causes

By Cate Sevilla

From the 10th to the 13th of September, all over the world, all of those crazy Twitter users will be once again gathering to “Tweet. Meet. Give” and raise money for charity.

The first global Twestival was organized by the incredible Amanda Rose in February of this year, and in just one day , Global Twestival raised over $250k, resulting in 55 wells that bring clean drinking water to more than 17,000 people in Uganda, Ethiopia, and India.

This round of Twestivals, dubbed Twestival Local, is “getting back to its roots” and simply encouraging cities around the world to host events in support of a local cause on one day during the weekend of 10-13 September 2009.

These Twestival Local events are organized by a group of dedicated volunteers, and 100% of all proceeds raised are donated to the charity and cause of each city’s choice.

Looking at the map of where all of the Twestivals are taking place, and the sheer scope of how many cities are participating really does reflect the power of Twitter, and just goes to show that a charitable spirit still exists in our communities.

BitchBuzz will be attending the Twestival Local London, with our correspondents and readers in both the UK and US and beyond attending their nearest Twestival.

If you plan on attending London Twestival, make sure to reply to @BitchBuzz on Twitter and let us know you’re there! It would be great to meet you.

There is still time to buy your ticket to Twestival Local London, so please do buy a ticket if you haven’t already.

You can purchase your London Twestival ticket on Amiando, or I’ve been informed by the London Twestival organizers that they’ll be selling tickets at the door!
