Let me be clear. I don’t have half a clue when it comes to the difference between an Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Really. Yet here I am with tips for bumbling through the task of gifting your gamer sweetheart.

I won’t fool myself into thinking I’m a gaming pro. I’m resourceful, not delusional, and as such picked the brains of the gamers in my life. Here’s what they recommended:

Fallout 3

This gamer girlfriend has never played this first person (or third person) role-playing game, but the reviews are glowing. “This LONG awaited installment of the Fallout franchise has received huge praise, both from video game media outlets, as well as gamers. Call of Duty World at War

If the last six years of war in Iraq hasn’t satiated your thirst, pick up this first person shooter WWII game  or Nintendo DS. “n-Space returns with a game that delivers the grittiness and chaos of the American, British, and Russian campaigns into the player’s hands as you confront new and relentless enemies across the European and Pacific battlefields. Spore

With music designed by Brian Eno, I might even become a fan of this single player online game (). Time Magazine described it as "one of the most ambitious video games ever conceived” in its 50 Best Inventions of 2008. Per Wikipedia, “the game allows the player to develop a species from a microscopic organism to its evolution into a complex animal, its emergence as a social, intelligent being, to its mastery of the planet and then finally to its ascension into space, where it interacts with alien species across the galaxy. Throughout the game, the player's perspective and species change dramatically.”

Everquest 2: Shadow Odyssey

Oh, the joy of expansion packs. Just released yesterday, Shadow Odyssey is the fifth expansion for the EQII MMORPG franchise developed by Sony Online Entertainment.

Nintendo DSi

Earlier this fall, BitchBuzz’s Elizabeth Boyle publicly declared her love for her DS Lite. Now, Wired is lauding its descendant, the, DSi as “10th-Level Awesome.” Wired’s biggest gripe is that the DSi is currently only available in Japan. Sake anyone?
