The 2nd Annual Women Who Tech Telesummit

By Cate Sevilla

Today, in Washington DC, San Francisco, London, New York and everywhere in between - Women Who Tech will be joining together via the web and - naturally - the phone to discuss women in technology.

The second annual Women Who Tech Telesummit, is spearheaded by Allyson Kapin and kicks off today at 11am EDT.

There are 12 panels ranging from topics such as "Women and Open Source" to "Launching Your Own Start-Up", and excitingly, every single panel is full.

They say the point of the telesummit is to " break down the barriers and showcase the brilliant talents of women who tech out" and it does indeed showcase some fantstic women, such as Lisa Stone of Blogher, BitchBuzz's dear friend Susan Mernit and Leslie Hawthorn from Google.

While I'm a bit curious as to how effective a telesummit will be and how much impact it will have - I'm really hopeful that it will do well. Women Who Tech is a kick-ass organization, and I love how they explain the "why" behind their name and what they do:

"To Mobilize A Network Of Women:

One of our long term goals is to create a database of women technology experts to be used as a resource for the media and tech conference organizers. This database will not only provide a strong network of women in the technology sector but support the creative talents and energies of women who thrive in this arena."

I'll be listening in on the "Launching Your Own Start-Up" panel with Lisa Stone, Rashmi Sinha from SlideShare, Amy Muller and Get Satisfaction and moderator Mary Hodder at 3pm EDT. (So, 8pm London time.)

I'll try to Twitter as much as I can, and will post my thoughts on the telesummit this week in BitchBuzz Tech.

You can follow me on Twitter as @cupcate as well as following Women Who Tech as @womenwhotech. If you'd like to follow the livestream of Tweets from the telesummit, simply search for the #WWT hashtag.

Good luck, all you Women Who Tech!

If you're a Women Who Techs in London, make sure to check out Silicon Stilettos, as Suz and the gang will be hosting the afterparty for Women Who Tech London.
