LittleBigPlanet is the fantastical, groundbreaking new game and social community for Playstation’s PS3. Gamers can can design, build and share their own objects and environments within the game, and Playstation are stoke because, as they say, it combines the three main elements of gaming: play, create and share.
Very zen, is it not?
Sackboy –or Sackgirl- is the hero – or heroine- of LittleBigPlanet, and the fun part is that everyone's Sack, eh, person is different. You can completely customize, personalize and accessorize your Sackgirl, which is a huge part of the LittleBigPlanet fun.
And, what makes Sackboys and Sackgirls even more fun, is that you can make them into fantastically geeky crafts! I thought so. I know, I know. I can practically feel you swooning from here.
The Shoreditch Sisterhood Women’s Institute has been commissioned to do a series of Sackboy and Sackgirl knitting patterns, as well as celebrity Sackboy patterns. The Shoreditch Sisterhood W.I. is known for being a place for women with common interests to join together and providing a voice for the modern woman. So, this antastic partnership of LittleBigPlanet and the Women’s Institute speaks volumes about both women and technology, and women in gaming.
Jazz Mellor founder of the Shoreditch Sisterhood says that,
“We really love the fact that social creativity is so central to the game, that aspect particularly resonated with what our group is aiming to achieve. e were really inspired by the lo-fi craft elements within what is ultimately such a ground breaking game. Our members have really enjoyed customising their SackBoys.”
You can choose to knit and customize your very own Sackboy by using the pattern provided by the Shorditch Sisterhood, or you can also choose to knit one of the five female celebrities that were specifically chosen by the Sisterhood:
Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse, Beth Ditto, Madonna or The Queen.
Beth Ditto?! Be still my heart!
LittleBigPlanet will surely change the face of gaming forever, and it’s fantastic that the Shoreditch Sisterhood have been able to be a part of it. (And knitting. Don’t forget the knitting.)
