You know those blogs and websites that are, rather unfortunately, on a black or dark blue background with blinding, white text? I cannot read these websites, which is quite sad, because generally a lot of them are quite good – I just get a headache every single time I look at them.
Call me picky, call me mean, but I am not the only person out there who wishes they could read seemingly unreadable sites, as there is now a brilliant application called Readability. Readabilty does what it says on the tin, but in their own words, Readability say that they’re a “simple tool that makes reading on the Web more enjoyable by removing the clutter around what you're reading”.
So, this is not only more useful for sites with garish font colors and backgrounds, but for the ad-cluttered and those suffering from a rather crap design.
Readability is very easy to use, as all you have to do is install Readability on your web browser, which gives you a nifty little button on your toolbar. So, when you’re reading a specific blog post or article on a generally fug website, it makes it...well, readable.
So, if you desperately want to read some filth on the Daily Mail without being assaulted by warnings of cancer in your drinking water or something horrible about X Factor, simply click the Readability button, and you’re left looking at a nice clean webpage.
Or, in my case, I’ve always wanted to read this lovely blog, but the background has always put me off. But thanks to Readability, I can now read it with ease. See?
Before
After
Readability is magic, y'all. MAGIC.
(Please note I think the above blog is fantastical, not necessarily ugly, but my stupid eyes can't read it on a black background. No offence intended!)
