For those of you who don’t recognise her, Pucca is a cute little cartoon character and in many ways South Korea’s answer to Hello Kitty. So far she’s adorned stationary, umbrellas, clothing, books and TV shows all over the globe. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before the franchise spread into gaming…
This month has seen the launch of Pucca’s Race for Kisses, a new game for the Nintendo Wii, which I’ve been testing out over the weekend.
The game is all about Pucca, a 10-year old girl who is in love with Garu, a ninja. She spends all of her time trying to pursue him and this particular game is about her playing kiss chase with him.
As you can probably tell, it’s not some challenging strategy game, it’s fun and light-hearted, making use of the Wii handset by swinging it back and forth to get your character to run faster, or directing the characters over obstacles by pointing it at the screen. There’s a single player mode in which you can chase Garu around different episodes while completing various games and tasks, like jumping streams and navigating little mazes.
However, there’s also a multiplayer mode, which lets you and a friend be either Pucca or Garu. This is particularly hilarious when Pucca catches Garu, pins him down and proceeds to kiss him. A lot.
I often play Wii games with other people, so I’m glad that there’s a multiplayer option. But, I would have loved to see a few different options because if more than one of you wants to play, you’re only able to chose from three levels.
The game is everything you’d expect, fun, colourful and cute. I imagine it’d be a particular hit among children, Pucca-lovers or if you want a break from more competitive Wii sports games.
However, if Pucca irritates you, or you take gaming a little more seriously, then you’ll get bored rather quickly.
The company behind the game, Big Ben Interactive, also makes very cute Nintendo Wii accessories, which would really complete the Pucca game! Look at this pink controller and handset. Very cute even though it’s probably aimed at kids...

Available for £45 from Littlewoods and other Wii retailers.
Pucca’s Race for Kisses is available from Wii retailers at a suggested price of €29.99. Also available for download via WiiWare for 1000 Nintendo points.
