Everything it would seem, has an iPhone application these days. Some of them are actually useful, some of them stink of companies jumping on the 'app' bangwagon and being pleased that they know what the word 'app' means, without actually helping you out.
Initially I thought that Ocado's new iPhone application, the first to have made online food shopping mobile, belonged to the latter camp. What use could being able to order from a fancy supermarket on-the-go be anyway? To order your 'Dom' from your first class seat on the Eurostar perhaps, which you know, we all often wish you could do.
A thought or two away from a knee jerk reaction however, I got to thinking that it could indeed, be pretty useful. Provided you are pre-registered with Ocado.com, you can place a food order from anywhere, so if you are stuck on a train for three hours without a laptop or are sitting in the park when you really should be food shopping on a saturday, you can actually get something useful out of the way. The application can even be used offline, so if you lose phone signal, you can still carry on with your order, making it really useful for tube journeys if you're in London.
Ocado stock a huge variety of brands including Waitrose own-brand foods. While people tend to consider Waitrose to be a little pricey, in reality it only seems that way because they don't sell the shit you find in most supermarkets. All of their meat is freedom food endorsed for example, it just seems expensive you just don't get the option of the cheap, yet highly unethical battery-farm monstrosities, which really, we should avoid buying anyway.
Ocado also boast 'internet only' prices, so I guess you are actually getting Waitrose bargains, if there are such a thing!
Looks like Ocado's iPhone application is another one for the useful pile then!
