Heather Armstrong: The Only Female Web Celeb

By Cate Sevilla

Every year Forbes announces it's list of the Top 25 Web Celebs, and every year I find it a little more depressing. Last year they had a whopping four women on the list: Heather B Armstrong  of Dooce.com, Gina Trapini of LifeHacker, Kathy Sierra, and Xeni Jardin of BoinBoing. This year there are even less.

One, to be exact.

Just one.

What woman made the cut? The Queen of Blogging, Heather B Armstrong clocked in at number eight. Phew, barely in the top ten!

Xeni Jardin made the "near misses" list, after only making it to 19 on the last list. And, if any other women made the "near misses" list, I couldn't find them because the usability on Forbes's site is so horrendous I almost cried half way through writing this.

I seriously cannot believe that Julia Allison didn't make this list, or even Non Society as a whole. They're not even a near miss? Julia was on the cover of Wired, FFS. What about Felicia Day? What about Sarah Lacy? If you look at the other women they've included on their list over the years (Violet Blue, for example) how are the aforementioned women not worthy of the list?

Is it really that there are just no female web celebs worthy of making this list - or are we just being overlooked?

I really can't tell anymore, but I smell bullshit.

Who do you think should have made Forbes's list?
