It seems like there's an ongoing love-hate relationship with Facebook.
We love it because, well, it's Facebook. It keeps us connected to each other and to our third-grade crushes, lets us stalk — or meet — our burgeoning love interests, and even offers insight into the life of the hiring manager with whom you might be on a job interview next week.
We hate it because it's addicting, takes up valuable time that could be better spent doing just about anything else, and because of their ongoing bad calls in terms of censorship and frequent changes in their privacy policy.
Despite all its pros and cons, Facebook is still exponentially growing, sucking up more of your time than any other website (according to Nielson Online, anyway), and still has you frantically managing your online identity — who can see what, friend rejects, friend requests, and figuring out how to avoid your company's executives (or at least about not posting a status update about which they'll later complain, tease you, or over which you'll get fired).
But there are some features of Facebook that keep the whole community thriving, in a sense. Like the fact that the guy you're stalking can't actually tell you're stalking him. That people aren't notified when you flat out reject their friend requests. Or that you can unfriend someone without them knowing, at least until they go to look at your profile and are blocked from seeing anything.
Oh wait. Just kidding. That last one isn't totally true anymore. Thanks to a new script you can install to run everytime you open up a Facebook page, now you can see which of your "friends" has changed their minds about your Facebook friendship.
The process to find out seems pretty straight forward in that the script compares your current friend list with the one it saved last time it ran.
So ... has your ex taken one more step in the no-communication direction? Has the colleague who was overlooked for the promotion you received overlooked you? Has a potential employer or client, once a friend, now closed the door on you? Go on and find out!
