BitchBuzz Beta Review: Is Bedpost Just a Glorified Calendar?

By Maria Diaz

Finally! A 2.0 site that isn't about bringing you closer to people you've been working hard to forget for ten years, isn't totally boring and doesn't want to induct me into the GTD cult. Naturally, it has to do with sex. It's a new site called Bedpost that allows you to track how much sex you are having, or in some cases, how much you are not having.

The smart asses among you may say that this is just called a calendar, but Bedpost introduces a few elements that makes organizing your sex life that much more exciting: tags and averages. Here's how it works: you add in your partners, and add in each encounter on a calendar. You can rate the experiences, duration and add tags.

That dude you met who wore boxer briefs and barked like a dog? Go ahead and add the tags: boxer briefs, barked like dogs. In the end, you'll have a list of your partners, a calendar to map them on, and words to associate them with. Plus, you'll also have overall averages on how often you're getting laid, the average duration, and the average rating. Which, is useful, as then you may find that you're having wonderful short sex infrequently, or bad, long sessions too frequently. Even those who don't, eh, get around can find use on the site and if you're in a monogamous relationship, it'd be interesting to see this data laid out and how sex can vary with the same person.

Obviously, the biggest question is how private is this site? For now, the creator attempts transparency by putting up their privacy policy right on the front page and claiming that no one, not even employees of Bedpost have access to what is entered and that the users retain all rights to it, including the ability to permanently delete the information if they choose to. Personally, while I believe in this site and have been having fun using it in its beta (currently available by signing up for a wait list on the site), I do worry what would happen should this information get in the wrong hands.

For now, this is a very interesting use of 2.0 tech and I'm eager to watch how Bedpost will evolve.

I was wondering if this isn't a bit dangerous, though. If this falls in the wrong hands of, let's say, the partner that "barks" (I hope I won't find someone like this, though!), I would know how Apocalypse looks like sooner than all the other mortals.
